• This position could be combined with an internship of a university (social sciences, social work or agricultural studies for instance)

For a period of 6 months, starting as soon as possible, Open Cultural Center is looking for an ESC trainee to teach Spanish at our project in the North of Catalonia (Castellterçol) where we are hosting 8 youth migrants and offering them a wide range of educational activities.

The tasks that the volunteer will carry out are the following:

  • Develop a Spanish curriculum aimed at young migrants
  • Teach 8 young migrants Spanish in classes of 2-3 hours
    • At least 2 classes in-person in Castellterçol (travel costs covered from BCN)
    • 2 other classes either in-person or online
  • Support the local Social Workers with other tasks

As this is a learning position, the person will be able to:

  • Extend her/his experience of teaching languages
  • Extend her/his experience and knowledge of the social sector by working on a daily basis with experienced social workers
  • Get to know the ins and outs of how a nonprofit organisation works
  • Learn how to work in multicultural environments with people from all over the world
  • Learn how to work with advanced project management tools such as Slack, Airtable, Trello, GitBook and more

The project is funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ ESC programme. This means that this position through ESC includes:

  • Travel costs (up to the limits established in Erasmus+ Guide distance calculator)
  • Accommodation
  • Monthly financial compensation
  • Insurance
  • Language courses (classroom or online, English, Catalan, Spanish and/or Arabic)

We are looking for a volunteer with the following profile:

  • Spanish citizen with legal residence + work permit in Spain
  • Teaching experience or educational background in teaching
  • Able to teach, speak and write in Spanish, preferably in English and Catalan as well
  • Easy-going and loving an intercultural environment
  • A motivated, sociable, proactive, open-minded, tolerant, creative and self-reliant person
  • Ideally: has a driving license
