For a period of 10 to 12 months, we are offering a long-term volunteering position within OCC Spain, focused on supporting the project CodeWomen. CodeWomen is an empowering and supportive community for women, by women, with a specific focus on women with a migration background. The project provides learning, encouragement and support to women in the tech field or to those wanting to start a tech career.

This is a great opportunity to become part of the Open Cultural Center team and learn about the nonprofit sector in the migration field!

Main tasks

  • Supporting and facilitating the organisation of CodeWomen events and coding sessions as a member of the organising team;
  • Participating in all CodeWomen events and meetings in person, with as main responsibilities the welcoming and registering of participants, and the logistics at the event;
  • Ensuring attendance of sufficient volunteers for Coding with Coaches sessions and UX/UI meetings, and for events with a workshop (Google Calendar invites, Slack reminders, emails and follow-up);
  • Drafting attractive Eventbrite invitations;
  • Keeping track of registrations through Eventbrite (participants) and Google Calendar (coaches), and guests, listing them on dedicated Notion pages;
  • Taking care of food & drinks for events where this is not provided by hosts;
  • Liaising with hosting partners (coding schools, companies) where needed;
  • Ensuring a photographer is present; managing the photo database;
  • Managing the CodeWomen WhatsApp group;
  • Collecting information from participants and updating the CodeWomen database;
  • Posting and reposting about CodeWomen on social media;
  • Supporting the organisation’s communications team in creating content about the project for Instagram, Linkedin and the blog;
  • Moderating the online communication channels through engaging interactions with the community; 
  • Take part in the ESC activities (organisation of team building activities, awareness raising in schools, etc.);
  • Support the rest of the team and participate actively in the organisation’s activities.


  • Enthusiastic and committed to achieving more diversity in the tech sector, and women empowerment in general;
  • People person, happy to help others, comfortable with reaching out to strangers and networking;
  • Independent and creative, able to come up with ideas, find new ways of doing things, and suggest improvements; 
  • Good command of English, and Spanish is a great advantage;
  • (Volunteer) experience with the organisation of  events;
  • Able to manage deadlines, plan ahead, and anticipate problems;
  • Comfortable with software tools and interested in learning to use new systems and tools, like Slack and Notion;
  • Some writing skills (e.g. posting clear messages in Slack, and drafting Eventbrite announcements);

What do we offer?

Our volunteering program is funded by the European Commission through the European Solidarity Corps program. This means that volunteering provides:

  • âś… Travel costs coverage: Up to the limits established in the Erasmus+ Guide distance calculator from the volunteer’s region of residency to our center, and back.
  • âś… Free Accommodation: Provided next to our office, in the city center of Barcelona, Spain with other volunteers. The flat is fully equipped (kitchen, bathrooms, washing machine, etc.). Note: be ready to share your bedroom with other volunteers of the same gender. 
  • âś… Monthly allowance: 310 euros per month.

  • âś… Free Language courses: Online but also in person, according to availability.
